Alyssa is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Team Lead for our speech therapy team at Desert Valley Pediatric Therapy. She has been working with us at DVPT since 2020. Alyssa has experience working with clients from birth to adulthood with various communication and swallowing disorders, and has worked with the pediatric population in various roles for more than 15 years. Alyssa has continuing education and experience with the use of simple ASL signs in the healthcare setting, and has attended multiple trainings for how to use and adapt the Lidcombe Program for preschool children who stutter. Her #1 passion is working with fluency disorders/stuttering, though she loves everything about the field of speech-language pathology. She believes speech therapy has the power to help clients develop stronger relationships, foster independence, and build confidence.

 

Alyssa is also a Feeding Therapist with our Comfort Feeding Clinic. She aims to increase her clients' trust and comfort with eating and exploring new foods. Her trainings and education in the area of feeding, eating, and swallowing include: Responsive Feeding: Together at the Table, Anxious Eaters and Anxious Mealtimes, Understanding Picky Eating: Getting Past the "Ick, I Don't Want That", Religious Considerations for Eating, Drinking, and Swallowing Services, MBSImP training, and the Feeding Matters International Pediatric Feeding Disorder Conference 2021-2023.

 

Alyssa grew up in central British Columbia, Canada. She attended the University of British Columbia (UBC) where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Speech Sciences and Psychology with a focus on cognition and development. She lived in Vancouver, BC for nearly a decade before moving to the United States with her husband. She attended Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ where she completed her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. In her free time, Alyssa loves reading, cooking, and playing board games and video games.
